Many of you asked what is GuaSha (Body Scraping)? Well, I have dane a research, here are the best decribe of GuaSha...
GuaSha or Skinscraping is one of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies. It is used to scrape relevant part of the skin with utensils (horns, jade, cupping) to achieve the purpose of dredging meridians and promoting blood circulation. But I much prefer Ox horn material, because it's durable and easier to test its authenticity.
Human skin is like a mirror that reflects overall health condition. In fact, human skin, hair, complexion, figure and other external manifestations are all signs of viscera (large organs inside the body) and meridians reflected in the body surface. These various body manifestations are telltale of whether a body part function normally or not. Skin is also a crucial organ where toxins are excreted from the body- sweating, for example, is a way where toxins exit body in sweat.
GuaSha is one of the six treatment methods in TCM. It is effective for various new and abrupt diseases, such as cold, heatstroke, sudden gastrointestinal disease, cervical spondylosis, shoulder and back pain, and skin diseases (affected area should be avoided). The procedure is simple- use a scraper, a bottle of scraping oil (or essential oil), follow the damaged meridian, and gently scrape skin at an angle of 45° or below. The scrape marks left behind look scary but little harm is done to the skin, and they will disappear within a few days.
In Western Medicine terms, GuaSha can stimulate sympathetic nerves, regulate endocrine and dilate capillaries of the body; with subcutaneous capillary rupture and slight bleeding, blood and lymphatic circulation is promoted, further boosted is number of leukocyte (white blood cell) and metabolism, and elimination of inflammation. Combined with various factors, this can enhance body immunity and assist rehabilitation.
